Lab Alumni Bids his Farewell

Wow, it’s hard to believe that two and a half months have passed already. It feels like a couple of weeks ago I took the taxi from Changi Airport to my apartment, entranced by all the lights, all the greenery, and the humid heat. Coming from the Swedish autumn it was quite a change. And now it’s time to leave this intensive, vibrant, and thoroughly alive city to go back to the harsh, but familiar, Swedish winter.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the lab members for making my stay here so enjoyable. From eating lunch together at the NUS canteens, to testing my prototypes, to introducing me to the mysterious durian, you have all left quite an impression on me. Thank you also prof. Shen, for making my internship possible.

So, what have I done during these months? I’ve conducted phone interviews and performed contextual inquiries with urban planners in Sweden, interviewed urban planning researchers here in Singapore, and created artifacts such as personas, scenarios, and storyboards. I’ve created two prototypes of my interface, which I’ve tested on lab members and urban planners. The assistance provided by the lab for all of this has been invaluable: not just a place to stay and to work, but input on my thesis report writing, how to conduct user evaluations, and how to properly interview people whose professions I initially knew very little about.

Thank you all again. Let me know when you’re in Sweden, and I’ll return the favour of showing me durian by introducing you to some lovely fermented herring.

Hej då,

Erik

Till we meet you again Erik. It was a pleasure to have you in this lab!
